HONG KONG INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL

KvT Vocal Tuition is proud to offer the Club Chorale and Vox Chorale courses for Hong Kong International School Lower and Upper Primary.

As part of the school's rich After School Activity (ASA) syllabus, these two courses are aimed at children who have an interest in singing, to come and learn more about their voice with peers in a dynamic yet intimate group setting.

Through a carefully designed curriculum, children will learn a broad range of skills that seeks to refine them as musicians and flourish them as people. Using a diverse range of age-appropriate repertoire, the course has many factors, but focuses primarily on the development of healthy singing technique in both classical and contemporary genres, with opportunities to perform that serve to build confidence.

CLUB CHORALE

The 'Club Chorale' ASA is a course for Grades 1 and 2 which aims to see the little voices of HKIS Lower Primary come together and grow into confident, capable performers who understand the foundations of healthy singing and musical teamwork.

In a positive, friendly and interactive learning environment, here we explore singing in different genres and styles of music through a carefully picked programme of repertoire that promotes the healthy and comprehensive development of children’s voices! With a focus on building confidence, this course provides the perfect balance between structure and creativity, as students learn the foundations of good singing technique and are introduced to written music whilst also exploring their individuality through fun exercises and games.

Students have the opportunity to sing solo within the class as well as at end-of-term performances, but also in smaller groups within the class, giving them the chance for a guided, step-by-step experience towards performing alone.

‘Club Chorale’ members learn:

  • to follow sheet music,

  • different genres and styles of singing,

  • use of correct vocal technique with increased awareness of breath control, use of chest and head voice, diction, phrasing, dynamic contrast and stage presence,

  • a heightened sensitivity to pitch and rhythm,

  • elements of drama and how to incorporate facial expression,

  • how to work as a team and support one another.

VOX CHORALE

For children in Grades 3 to 5, 'Vox Chorale' uses age-appropriate, fun and purposeful music within a variety of genres, to both challenge and inspire keen singers who want to learn and understand healthy singing technique.

Children read from written music to advance their general music knowledge whilst evolving vocal skills related to breath control, tone, dynamic contrasts and much more. The course gives students a chance to explore a more detailed perspective on vocal works that aim to stretch them as performers and motivate their musical interests further.

Emphasis is placed on independent learning and students are encouraged to practise at home between sessions and in advance of end-of-term performances.

Keeping an encouraging, uplifting and supportive environment is also a focus of this class so that singers may develop a strong sense of self-esteem and feel able to explore solo performance opportunities, should this be of interest to them.

'Vox Chorale' members learn:

  • different genres and styles of music

  • use of correct vocal technique with increased awareness of breath control, use of chest and head voice, diction, phrasing, dynamic contrast and stage presence

  • greater emotional and lyrical understanding of literature,

  • detailed aspects of reading sheet music including musical terminology and symbols,

  • elements of drama and how to incorporate facial expression,

  • how to work as a team and support one another.

  • skills of independence and consistency as a result of a greater focus on home practice
