We've created a breakdown which gives prospective clients a comprehensive bullet-pointed list of what makes KvT Vocal Tuition special, and you can see by clicking here.
But we wanted to use this post to shine a more detailed light on something we feel is really unique about our service. We know that practise makes progress, but children often find it difficult to practise independently, and this of course is an essential part of learning as well as a crucial life skill. Going to the gym once a week isn't going to reap much reward, neither is taking one science class a week going to make you the next Einstein, and it's the same for most aspects of life. But self-discipline is a skill and herein lies where KvT Vocal Tuition goes the extra mile.
Kirsten puts in a lot of the work behind the scenes by taking time to create a bespoke practice plan every week for every student between lessons. Many teachers will only verbally tell students in their lessons what they need to practise at home, and this can easily be forgotten. Sometimes notebooks are used which are intended for children to read at home, reminding them what they need practise, but these often lack the clarity or inspiration that young people really need to both motivate and inspire independent learning. As a result, in our early days of teaching, we saw that notebooks would stay in the bottom of a school bag or lie abandoned in a corner of the house somewhere.
Our unique KvT Vocal Tuition practice timetables give pupils clear and realistic goals. These goals are numbered to help children understand exactly what is expected of them without overwhelming them. Separating each day into practice time blocks of 5 or 10 minutes where pupils can easily record their efforts, they can write down what goal they have worked on and when, giving them a real sense of achievement whilst encouraging consistency, independence and accountability for their own hard work.
The wonderful thing about these practice timetables is that they can be put up in a place where the whole family is able to see it regularly, allowing parents and carers to motivate their loved ones.
Not only this, but each practice timetable is designed in a way that’s both aesthetically pleasing to children and personalised to the individual. Is your little one creative? Great! We love to see them decorating their timetables by drawing their favourite emojis to signify that they've completed a warm-up. Equally, if this aspect is unappealing or too much of a distraction for a child, we can strip back the timetable to exactly what it needs to be - a set of goals, carefully explained.
With each practice timetable that is sent via email after the lesson, pupils and parents will also receive any relevant sheet music and MP3s that may be necessary for the tasks at hand. KvT Vocal Tuition is all about attention-to-detail, making any and all adaptations you could think of to enhance the learning experience. This includes changing the key of music to suit the singer, annotating sheet music to make directions clear and concise, recording and sending specific audio-clips of exercises or sections of pieces to coincide with goals… and of course, maintaining a constant stream of contact with parents/carers to ensure that communication is paramount at all times.
So, if you have a little one who loves to sing or act but you're worried they won't put in the hard work to make it a worthy investment, rest assured that we really do offer an 'all-round' service that gives children and young people the very best chance of thriving in the long-term.
